The Viper has been around for more than 20 years now and despite the fact the basic recipe remained the same, the car changed tremendously since it was originally launched. The current model 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is the most advanced one yet and it also happens to be one of the fastest American super cars out there.
However, in order to make it crazier than ever Dodge decided to release a special edition of the car with the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR. Even though at first it may not sound like much, the ACR stands for American Club Racing and it is the most capable version of the car yet.
Just like with some of its competitors, this version is aimed at track racing rather than street use and even though it is perfectly road legal, the car is not the easiest or the most comfortable to drive on the open roads mostly because the ACR version makes use of a completely revised suspension system with nearly three times harder springs and adjustable shocks in order to give the driver the most amount of control over the car.
2016 Dodge Viper ACR Price
The new ACR has already been released and it should be available for sale for around $130,000 for the base model.
Exterior of Dodge Viper ACR
The exterior of the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is the biggest change over the base version of the car because Dodge decided to add a lot of aerodynamic equipment in order to give it as much downforce as possible.
The package is optional though and it includes things such as a bigger adjustable rear wing on two levels, a detachable front splitter and front air dams, new hood louvers which are meant to reduce the pressure inside the wheel arch as much as possible as well as a new adjustable rear diffuser which could provide up to two times as much downforce as that of the base car.
The wheels are also unique 19 inch rims with 295 section tires in the front and 355 section tires in the back which Dodge says it will give the car in excess of 1,5G of cornering performance.
Interior of Dodge Viper ACR
Inside the cabin on the other hand, the ACR version of the Viper is pretty much stock. The car still comes with air conditioning which is a great feature especially since some tracks tend to become really hot, a unique steering wheel, lightweight carpeting and even suede on the seats and upholstery to give the car a more upmarket feel.
There is only a three-speaker audio system which should be enough, especially since it now has new exhaust pipes to reduce the back pressure of the gasses and less carpeting. There is also a great infotainment system which can pair with most phones on the market as well as really nice aluminum inserts.
Dodge Viper ACR Engine
Engine wise, the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is pretty much identical with the base version of the car. It sports the same 8.4 liter naturally aspirated V10 which still is the biggest engine on any other production car.
The engine is good for 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque and thanks to the fact it is a naturally aspirated unit, the power deliver is pretty much instant.
While most other cars in its class went for a fully automatic gearbox with dual-clutches, the ACR still rocks the same Tremec TR6060 6 speed manual gearbox which is one of the most precise on the market. The gear changes are fast and it offers the driver a lot of satisfaction.
Besides that, the gears are quite long so the car is not slow by any means. The 0 to 60 MPH time comes in around 3 seconds while its top speed is around 196 MPH, limited by the drag created by the extra aerodynamic kit.
