Around a year ago Cadillac trademarked a lot of new names starting with the CT2 and ending with the CT8. This is because they plan to rename the current models and also expand the roster of their cars which is quite small at this time. The smallest vehicle in their range is currently the ATS which will renamed the CT3. However, in the near future Cadillac is also going to release a smaller car called the 2017 Cadillac CT2. This will be using the same platform as the ATS or even as the CTS but it will be slightly smaller and less powerful.
The car will be aimed mostly at people who buy the Mercedes CLA or the Audi A3, so it will be similar in size and price to those two cars. However, unlike those two and most other cars in its class, the CT2 will be a rear wheel driven car, meaning it has a major plus over its competitors. This should allow for better driving characteristics as well as for a sportier car.
2017 Cadillac CT2 Price and Release date
The release date is unknown at this point in time but many people suggest that it will be available starting with the end of 2016 and its base price should be less than $30,000 which does puts it quite close to the ATS but it will make sense considering it will still be a luxury sedan.
Engine of the Cadillac CT2
Engine wise, the 2017 Cadillac CT2 is most likely going to make use only of inline 4 engines which is the current trend in its class. For starters there is going to be available only a single engine, a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 which has been first launched this year on the Camaro.
However, the CT2 will come with two power outputs which will suit different people. The base model is expected to provide around 230 horsepower and up to 250 lb-ft of torque which should be more than enough for a more luxurious family car. This model will come equipped with a 6 speed manual and rear wheel drive only.
The other option will still be a 2 liter engine but this time it will provide upwards of 260 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque and it will come with either a manual or an 8 speed automatic, rear or all wheel drive. While it still is lower than the RS3 or the AMG CLA, the CT2 will provide better fuel consumption than those two and it will be the only one offering a rear wheel drive system.
In terms of looks, the 2017 Cadillac CT2 is going to be similar to the current models in Cadillac’s roster but it will also bring something unique into the mix. Firstly, it has been rumored to be more angular than any other car Cadillac currently has and on top of that it will also be the smallest.
The floor-pan though will be identical to that of the ATS so it should also offer a similar sized cabin. The front end will likely only feature HID headlights rather than LED units in order to save some money while at the back only the more powerful version of the car is going to receive a dual exhaust system.
2017 Cadillac CT2 Interior
The cabin of the CT2 will be upmarket to say the least and quite nice to the touch as well. The car will not use the same materials as the ATS or the CTS but it will offer leather upholstery, aluminum inserts and even carbon fiber trims on some special edition models.
There is going to be enough room for up to five adults and in the back it will offer more space than any of its competitors which is a big trait for its class.
