The SRX was Cadillac’s best selling crossover but it was unfortunately getting old and its buyers wanted something a bit more up to date. In order to meet their expectations, and likely exceed them, Cadillac released an all new car to release the aging SRX back at the end of 2015 with the all new 2017 Cadillac XT5. Its name suggests that it is a mid-sized crossover that will slot just under the upcoming XT7.
2017 Cadillac XT5 Release date and Price
While the car has already been released and Cadillac showcased most of the details already, the price as well as a few features are still unknown. These will be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2016 while shortly after that, the car is expected to go on the market.
The price hasn’t been offered just yet but it will be next month. Until then, it is safe to assume that the XT5 will start at roughly $40,000 and it will go up from there. This will allow it to compete with the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5 as well as with its other American, European or Asian competitors.
Unlike the previous model, the new 2017 Cadillac XT5 is using an all new platform which has been derived from the highly modular E2XX mid-size sedan platform. This means that it is based on a front wheel drive chassis which allows Cadillac to improve the interior space and perfect the way the car drives on paved roads.
Engine of Cadillac XT5
Engine wise, the car will only be offered with a single engine choice in the US but this might change in the near future. The engine will be GM’s already well known 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6 which is quite potent for its size at 310 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque.
This will drive either the front or all wheels via electronically controlled differentials and it will send all of that power via an 8 speed automatic gearbox. In the near future, the car is also expected to receive GM’s upcoming 9 speed automatic which has been in development for some time now.
Also, in order to keep its price down, a lesser engine will likely be offered on other markets. This will be GM’s 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 petrol engine which can be configured to deliver up to 275 horsepower and more than 290 lb-ft of torque.
A high performance version of the car is also expected to be released in order to compete with the Audi RS Q5 or the BMW X3 M. This will likely use the same twin-turbocharged 3.6 liter V6 found on the ATS, engine which is capable of delivering as much as 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.
Cadillac XT5 2017 Design
The design of the new XT5 is certainly something unique and while it does share some of its traits with the other Cadillac cars, such as its front grille or muscular design, the front end features unique headlights which extend downwards with narrow LED strips that are then continued with the LED fog-lamps for a very interesting look.
Also, the front and rear bumpers of the car use silver plastic shields that together with the black or dark color choices make for a really nice contrast. The back takes a bit from the ATS but it also makes its own look which makes the XT5 look a lot more like a hot-hatchback rather than a tall crossover.
Interior of 2017 Cadillac XT5
Inside the cabin the 2017 Cadillac XT5 is offering the best materials GM has to give. The dashboard is minimalistic in design and it is covered in leather while the seats are very supportive and comfortable as well.
Standard features include GM’s infotainment system, 4G connectivity and a Wi-Fi hotspot while Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto are supported from the base model.
