Car companies usually build luxury cars for older people because these type of people have to money to get them. However, things changed in the recent years, so younger people can afford much more expensive cars than they used to, so many manufacturers are trying to offer these people powerful and refined cars that look better and are more dynamic than those usual luxury sedans. One of these is the all new 2017 Infiniti Q30 which has been released back at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The car is using an all new platform for Infiniti and it comes with a lot of unique features which make it a very interesting choice for its class.

The car will also come on the US market as a premium compact luxury car where it will likely be first revealed at the Chicago Auto Show next month.

Here, the car is expected to cost around $30,000 which is around $2,000 less than the Mercedes CLA. Why is this important? Well, the Q30 and the Mercedes A Class, CLA and GLA are all sharing the exact same platform as well as the same engine and running gear.

This basically makes the Q30 a Mercedes A Class with a different body on it and a new interior. While this may seem strange, we have to say that Infiniti did a great job with the Q30 because it looks stunning.

Exterior of Infiniti Q30

The exterior of the 2017 Infiniti Q30 has to be one of the best sorted exteriors on the market today. The car manages to get design cues from the new Q50 and Q60 coupe and mix them into a hatchback form which doesn’t look bad.

The front end comes with the usual Infiniti large grille but the car’s body-kit is actually a bit sportier than we’re used to on an Infiniti car. The front bumper has a small splitter integrated into it while the back of the car looks aggressive with the low roof and small windows opening.

As standard, the Q30 will get 18 inch rims and all-season tires while the Sport model will actually get larger 19 inch rims and high performance rubber.

Infiniti Q30 Interior

The interior is on par with what is currently found on the Q50 sedan which is quite a nice improvement over what Infiniti used to do in the past.

Here, the dashboard uses a design aimed at the driver and most of the controls are based on the center stack. Unfortunately there is no large touch-screen control center and most of the car’s features are used via regular buttons.

Luckily though, these feel like their built with a lot of care and while there still is some plastics throughout the interior, most of the trimmings and inserts are made out aluminum while the upholstery will be leather even on the base model.

Infiniti Q30 2017 Engine

Engine wise, the 2017 Infiniti Q30 will be using the same 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 petrol engine currently found on the Mercedes A250 or CLA250. This will make up to 208 horsepower and over 210 lb-ft of torque which is average at best.

However, it is mated to a 7 speed dual-clutch gearbox which sends the power either to the front or all wheels. This makes the car feel faster than it really is and thanks to the fact that the torque is available from low rpm, the car feels adequately powered.

The official performance numbers suggest that it will hit 60 MPH in 6.4 seconds and it will hit 146 MPH which is very impressive for how powerful it is.

In the future, there are rumors that it will receive a more powerful engine based on this 2 liter mill. This would be able to offer up to 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque and it will only be available with the all wheel drive system.
