Once the Porche joined the ever-growing SUV market, we were pretty sure that other supercar and sports car carmakers would soon join the fun. After a long period of rumors, speculations, and whispers, Lamborghini will launch its very-first high-performance SUV with rather odd name, Urus.
Well, even the thought of Lamborghini SUV makes my mouth water. There is a debate whether Lambo can support an SUV and have successful SUV time.
Whether or not the Urus will be good enough to stack up against the Bentley Bentayga and Porsche’s Cayenne, you will find out soon. The carmaker claims that it will be the fastest and the most dynamic SUV model of all times, let’s check is this true.
Exterior of 2017 Lamborghini Urus
In 1993, Lamborghini launched its first SUV called the LM002 and produced only 328 models. No, the LM002 was not exclusive; it basically was the carmaker’s greatest failure.
The main reason for its failure was the fact that it was not a recognizable Lamborghini. Most of you will agree that it looked more like a Humvee sporting the Lambo badge. On the other hand, once you see the new Urus, you will immediately realize it is Lamborghini’s model.
That’s exactly what customers wanted, so there is no doubt that, unlike the LM002, the 2017 Lamborghini Urus will enjoy great popularity. All Lamborghini buyers expect a model with aggressive style and hard angles, and the new Urus has all that.
The very first thing which screams “Lamborghini” is the vehicle’s frontward-pointing arrow design. The concept of the Urus clearly reminds us the Aventador. The front end of the Urus is decorated with “Y” shaped headlights with LED bulbs. However, it sports smaller units than that of the flagship Aventador.
Also, the Urus gets similar, large air intake cutouts as the Aventador. The rear end of the vehicle boasts carmaker’s hard angles and trademark taillights. Under the taillights, you will see 4 exhaust exits. Of course, they omit a sound which can easily be identified as Lambo’s.
The side profile of the vehicle looks as if the carmaker took the best-looking supercar and put it on a truck frame, but with the style expected from the carmaker such as Lamborghini. The 2017 Urus will be offered with a set of 24-inch aluminum wheels finished in matte paint.
2017 Lamborghini Urus Interior
Unlike other models in its niche, the Urus will hold up four passengers. Every single component inside of the car was made out of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer.
Another interesting thing inside of the cabin is that behind the wheel, you will find only the paddle shifters.
The rest is controlled by the multi-function steering wheel or by the screen placed behind it. However, we are quite sure that this layout won’t make it to production.
Lamborghini Urus Engine
Italians will probably use a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine for the 2017 Urus. The engine could deliver mind-bogglingly 610-horsepower and at least 580 pound-feet of torque.
After the initial launch, the carmaker will probably offer two more versions, including a model with enhanced aerodynamics, suspensions, and SV. This one could be able to deliver more than 700 horses. Plug-in hybrid version might also be one of the options.
